Re: tariffs not being retroactive, that’s not going to stop businesses from raising prices on their current stock.
I was gonna say, look at how often oil prices go up and the prices immediately go up on the gasoline already sitting in the ground under the gas station.

So I tried to post this in this Reddit thread, and it automatically got taken down twice. Here's the thread:

And this is what I tried to post:

"As a white male American, I agree with all points, even if this is a ChatGPT.

Something that I feel is overlooked is how hard it is, at least to me, to look at the American flag and still feel good about it. Maybe a lot of people here that are trying to get through this might not agree with this, but it feels like that has been overtaken by Trump and his supporters to the point where if I see one flying from someone's car or plastered all over their house or lawns. I re-registered as an independent because I can't stand the GOP, but the Democrats are unable to agree on anything and need to grow a set. I still hope that people like Bernie, AOC, Crockett, and Booker will get out there and try to do something, both in the congressional halls and the streets. To the rest of the world, we know, a lot of us are trying. And we know you are too.

But to circle to my opening point, I want to just emphasize what I said about the American flag: I want my flag back. It should be OUR flag, but it doesn't feel that way anymore."

I was reading a Reddit thread talking about how Sweetwater just raised prices due to the tariffs. And a FB post in the Axe Palace thread on tariffs. In both cases there were people posting that the tariffs were fair, because they’re reciprocal, and are just equal to what the other countries are charging us. Of course, it’s been pretty clear in the news that Trump is just using the trade deficit divided by our imports from that company. It’s not matching tariffs at all. So you get a country like Vietnam, who had an actual tariff of 9 percent (or 5 percent, if weighted by trade), now has a rate of 46%. But, this is a third world country. Of COURSE we import more from them than they do from us. We do it because it’s cheaper there. We put our own factories there for that reason. It would be like going to your kid and saying it’s unfair that you give them an allowance and food, and they don’t give you the same amount back.

So here’s my question: has anyone talked with a supporter of these tariffs that actually understands that they are not reciprocal, and that the math is a reflection of cost-of-labor, etc trade deficits more than tariff taxation? Because I haven’t found a non-government person who has argued FOR these particular tariffs, and understood them. And the government ones coming out in support cannot be expected to be without bias due to personal gain. I mean, I’d expect a, “well, they’re clearly unfair, and not reciprocal, but he’s purposely being a dick, and hoping to get something from it,” or something. But people genuinely think this is just fairness, and will make America manufacture goods cheap enough to compete with these other countries.

I watched an interview piece from Sri Lanka and Madagascar where a lot of sneakers and jeans are made. They're very afraid the entire foundation of their economy will be destroyed. I highly doubt a "sweat shop" can lay off 30% of their workers to cut costs.

If they did, I don't think it's all across the board just yet. None of the gear I've been eyeballing on my wish list has gone up just yet, but they most likely will soon when they have to get new stock.

Thanks for reminding me I forgot to ask about that yesterday lol. Did the mods use their new(re)found powers, or did he finally realize Trump is the true baddie?

EDIT: doesn't appear to be banned.
As an aside, it's not that being a conservative poster gets you banned on here (that's a misperception that had a lot to do with Alex taking our banhammer in the first place TBH). It's that being outnumbered in debate here usually triggers people to say stuff they shouldn't. The "fuck your feelings" "hate speech is free speech" ideology doesn't help, either.

That said, Darkstar does a decent job of not falling into either trap. There's a lot of what he says that implies a problematic worldview but for the most part, there's specific words or attacks on members that trigger a response and he doesn't tend to do that.

I had the guy ignored so I'm not sure if he slipped in a slur or two somewheres to warrant a ban lol. Had the guy fully tuned out. I know being a conservative idiot in general doesn't get you banned, but conservative idiots tend to love dropping slurs and personal attacks lol

Like I said, old ownership thought different. When we were inundated with spam and I begged him to get it back, he asked for me to pledge that I could "unbiased".

Meanwhile, you go somewhere like the MyLesPaul and the mods are the ones posting Trumper memes and banning left wing posters for benign disagreements.
