"only the weak (poor, middle class... most of us) will fail" ....goes and fucking plays golf.

Like, political leanings aside, how the fuck doesn't everyone hate the shit out of this asshat? Did playing a successful businessman on TV really garner that much trust n' stuff? Were they somehow impressed by his resumed of fizzled business disasters and known propensity for screwing the actual hard working people out of pay and contracts? Like, especially now that he's openly saying he doesn't care, people still think this turds their guy?

Also, how is all this fuckery actually making any of his voter bases, let alone anyone except for him and like less than 50 other richer-than-anyone-ought-to-fucking-be shitstains of 'humanity' life better at this point? You were so scared of immigrants, trans people, and shopping at Aldi's for reasonable egg prices that just burning down the country we live in is preferable?

Anybody backing this scum at this point needs to just admit that they actually hate freedom (and decency, and having a retirement, not having polio...). Because freedom for me, and not for thee is not freedom at all.

It's a big fuckin' club, and you ain't in it!

I saw a post by Sam Darling on group thinking.

Essentially it boils down to how humans tend to thrive in groups. Some groups (being educated, being considerate of others) take a fair amount of effort to enter. If you cannot get into those groups, you look for another group instead of going it alone.

Enter MAGA. It's a group that accepts anyone who is not well educated, not considerate of others, etc. the only cost being loyalty to the group.

tl:dr
They're lemmings.

I'll admit that new Donkey Kong game does look solid, and I'm not much of a platformer guy. At 23 years old, I've already resigned myself to never retiring at the rate things are going, so they might as well leave me with fucking Donkey Kong.
As someone nearly twice your age, I gotta say that my thinking isn’t much different. I have mapped out how to deal with retirement absent SS or investments in worst case, but cheap gaming definitely plays a part in the happiness aspect.

Sounds like a power metal cover of a Cannibal Corpse song.

I heard something interesting today, which I hadn't thought of. Mark Cuban was telling people to stock up on necessities from big box stores before the tariffs kick in and raise prices. That doesn't seem like the best advice, given the toilet paper depletion of the Covid era, BUT, he made a solid poinit after that. He said that companies would use the tariffs as an excuse to raise prices - even if their product wasn't affected by it. That is 100% believable, given what happened with inflation, and the price hikes using that as an excuse post covid. And there's 0% chance they'll bring those prices back down out of magnanimity. The only thing gonna bring prices down is competition, and the tariffs provide an excellent screen to effectively collude and price fix among companies.

In related news, I'll be curious what happens with guitars. Nick (Axe Palace) posted today that prices are going up immediately, and it's a good idea to buy now. Someone asked if they place an order, and the guitar arrives after the tariffs are in effect, with the original price be honored, and Nick said he didn't know, because a 30% price hike is significant for him. So we could see a situation where people who have guitars arriving from overseas are suddenly too expensive to complete the order, and people either lose money, or the shop has to eat it. Either way, MIK, MIJ, MIC (especially) guitars are gonna get potentially expensive for anyone that bought one, but hasn't yet taken delivery.

Surprised nobody in the comments pointed out, Rogan probably asked "where is this guy from?" and someone responded "Channel 5" and Rogan thought it was literally a TV channel because hes a neanderthal

Oof I have a MIJ not expected til Q3 that I only put a deposit down on a few months ago. Makes me wonder if I'll even want it if I find out there's a big price hike. (Wasn't thru Axe Palace)

Well I caved and bought a new phone. It was in my plans for later this year anyway, and I'm not interested in paying multiple hundreds more than they already are now. Still on the fence about going out and getting a car today as well, but that's really a lot of money to part with and I'd have to finance all of it since I can't access my savings for a couple business days

Tariffs shouldn’t be retroactive, so any inventory already in the country shouldn’t be subjected to them. So you should be able to go “buy” the car today and delay the final paperwork until sometime during the coming week and still avoid the finance issue.

I assume all of this will result in the used market becoming more unaffordable as well? Or perhaps people will panic-sell their extra shit since they're worried about their overall net value?

I said this earlier, but if consumers pivot to buy more american products, this means demand goes up, and so do prices.

I had a practical question: if I buy Toontrack software (from Sweden, I think), do I pay a tariff?
Directly? Unlikely. Indirectly, they will probably raise prices in step with the impending hyperinflation

Both, probably. Lots of gear flooding the market at prices nobody is willing to pay for the same reason that the gear is flooding the market.

I wonder if setting VPN to Sweden would be a loophole.

From what I've heard, at least in gaming, that tariffs will affect digital games to make up for how difficult it may be to get physical copies out there or something along those lines to make up for costs.

That’s idiotic. Just do what Nintendo’s doing and raise the price on physical instead of digital to encourage it.

Re: tariffs not being retroactive, that’s not going to stop businesses from raising prices on their current stock. And to be fair if it’s going to cost them a lot to restock their current items then the sale maybe SHOULD offset the increased restocking fee, especially in the case of small businesses.

I’ve seen some people saying they got notes from Chinese suppliers saying they just plain aren’t selling to the US anymore cause it’s too complicated. Good, we need more of this kind of stuff to force the hand of congress to stop this demented old coot before he gets them voted out for the next decade. Cause it’s becoming clear he’s not going to stop himself, especially with how a lot of really major countries like China are absolutely not bowing down to make a deal and are instead treating us like the world treated Russia after the Ukraine invasion. And people are speculating the EU is about to tariff digital goods from the US which would be a total disaster on top of what’s already happened, and would also be perfect. Make people like Zuckerberg or Bezos squirm.
