no no no back up a second. I just recommended two broad indices - these are not micromanage stocks these are always buy and hold, set and forget, no effort options. Both of which would have left you in a better position than you are now. Seriously you might have an actual problem please check your investments. do like 1 whole hour of research, or call the firm where your retirement account is held for help/recommendations, and try to move your stuff to a better option. This is too much money to lose to be this flippant about it
cool cool, i messaged my accountant

some of the major loss ones are in canadian companies from the looks of it (these are canadian accounts). there are some us companies, but not all.

Starting to be even more glad I purchase from local farmers directly whenever possible, and have had those relationships firmly established for years so I get to be early in their lines for supplies. God damn, what a clusterfuck.

Yeah, you're probably going to be unaffected then. But everyone who buys meat and lettuce from walmart or pick n save or whatever? Russian Roulette! I'm glad I hate lettuce and never buy it, but I know some other vegetables and fruits can cause botulism and other fun stuff when contaminated too.

Meat is more stuff like now there's no enforcement mechanisms for purging animals with prion diseases, stopping unscrupulous butchers from killing animals before letting the antibiotics get out of their system, that kind of thing. Really scary stuff.

Crashing the economy was worth it as long as we got rid of DEI
what fucks with my head is I've come across people who would actually call that a fair trade. Knowing that kinda' epicly regressive mentality exists in this world is stomach churning.

Hey, remember when some folks jumped in and got mad at us Canadians for talking about "American problems"? Well, now we're losing money too. My savings took a hit this morning. Not a huge hit, but enough to notice.
Those folks are currently in basic training and are preparing to go to war against Greenland. A tragic kayaking accident killed one of them. Some say he was a patriot. Others say he should have worn inflatable arm swimmies.

I noticed that as well. I took a ~3% hit, which isn't huge, but it hasn't dipped this much overnight since... idk, a long time.

You folks in other countries being hit negatively may wanna hold that close to the vest. Otherwise Trump and his supporters will start strutting around like peacocks crowing about how they're really hurting those big meanies in other countries to distract from how royally they're fucking over everybody back home.

The difference with the other countries at this point is they are all able to make a new global trade network that can cut the US out. So, for you it's short term pain, long term gain. Us, it's short term pain, long term extreme pain. I also expect they're going to see way, way less short term pain given how many people are shifting investments from US companies over to literally any other country/currency possible.

We're gonna be in for a world of hurt if this shit continues, because you're right. The rest of the world will stop throwing money at American companies.

Even if we reverse course today, it'll take years for the rest of the world to view us the same way. We're making ourselves outcasts on the world stage, in business, in diplomacy, and in any way that matters.

I expect if they were reversed today, and Trump was somehow neutered (either through being removed from power or through congress stripping him of just Tariff policies), I suspect most countries would just stick with the US cause it's the path of least resistance, even after announcing these plans to move on without the US. The longer this goes on the more likely that is for them to follow through.

I have to imagine all the big business owners who actually care about stocks (aka most traditional lobbyists, not super ghouls like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel that intentionally want to destroy the economy and replace it with crypto and slavery) are pooling their money for a reward for a John Wick character. At least, that's what would be happening if real life were anywhere close to as good as the movies.

I actually would agree with this. I think if congress actually got off their ass and stripped him of his unconstitutional tariff powers, the world could say "ok if things actually get out of hand there are real checks and balances". That said, congress won't. Because even if things actually get out of hand there are not checks nor balances

Yeah, this. I'm not that worried in the long run. While I don't think we'll come out unscathed, we're likely to survive Trump's 4 years in ways that y'all 'muricans aren't. If society crumbles badly enough that I'm wrong, then my savings are probably going to be the least of our problems.
