I learned yesterday that my neighbor voted twice for Trump and now regrets it. But he just couldn't vote for Biden because of his "open borders" policy. 🤦‍♂️

Border crossings fell under Biden, open borders is a policy nobody in either party favors, and Trump is deporting people at a rate significantly below Biden's. Trump is just doing it illegally, so it's higher profile.
Don't have the stats handy, but they accelerated from the Trump era simply because Biden was seen as less anti-immigrant than Trump, and of course have since reversed for the same reason. Doens't mean they're not fown from the, say, W era.

Also, my wife just got a check from the IRS with pay to the order of [firstname] Mork [lastname].

So things are going great.

(My wife's middle name is not Mork)

How do you know?

Nanoo nanoo. I totally had a Mork & Mindy poster on the back of my bedroom door growing up. Loved that show, despite the absolute stupidity. Or maybe because of the absolute stupidity.

Who would have thought that The Fonze's Great Gazoo would end up being such a good spin-off show? Certainly better than Joni Loves Chachi. I so wanted that one to work, and it just didn't.

Speaking of the The Great Gazoo,
I recently had it explained to me that The Jetsons and The Flintstones lived in the same time. Flintstones were the poor folk, the Jetsons were the well-to-do folk, living above the clouds. The Flintstones and their ilk use bio-engineered dinos to do most of their work because it was deemed easier that continuing to rely on fossil fuels for base-level mining and such, while the uber-elite and the medium-well-to-do, like the Jetsons, live above it all anyway, and try their best to ignore the plight of the stone dwellers that continued to toil away like most of humanity had over the eons.

I feel like there's a fan-fic possibility here that's just tantalizingly out of reach to me today, but may come into reach if I dwell on it too long.

There was a movie in the 80's where the two families met via time travel, so I think the "same time theory" is more of a fan creation.

I don't support the death penalty, but I imagine that a case built around premeditated murder would certainly fall within that scope - especially with a Republican leading the prosecution. With the way things are going here, I guess we should just be happy he is even getting a trial.
Wait, does New York state even have the fucking death penalty? First a terrorism charge and now they want the death penalty? Fuck that. Free Luigi; eat the rich.

I guess since it's a "federal charge" but its a totally insane power grab by the DOJ. Luigi, if you recall, with pretty bipartisan support but the Trump admin making clear who they answer to. 🤑

I’m not convinced that Luigi had a grain of bipartisan support, despite that being a rallying cry tbh. 99% of what I anecdotally saw from “the right” was “violence is never the answer/prayers for his children/what deranged people would support murder, etc”

I'll agree but with the caveat that's AFTER they were fed their talking points. People responded very different viscerally until Shapiro/Tucker/Hannity told them what to think. Happens a lot actually.

Elon continuing to be a bane to the GOP when it comes to non-presidential elections is giving me life at least

This was such a huge relief. I was optimistic, but then I was kind of optimistic about Kamala, too! But yeah, huge blowout. Called in 45 minutes.

He actually offered everyone in WI who signed a petition "against activist judges" $100, and that was on top of the $25 million. I am guessing he's calling his bank now to cancel all those checks now that he flushed all that money down the toilet and got a blow-out loss. This race was NOT expected to be this much of a blowout, she was polling way lower than our last supreme court liberal (Janet, who won by like 11 points) relative to the conservative candidate.

Gotta wonder if Elon's influence had a Streisand Effect on the whole situation. Elon's engagement in such brazen fuckery while being such a massively unpopular figure managed to trigger a much bigger pushback than what might have otherwise occurred. This time, anyway.

Being a nerd was having a huge 180 in social capital over the past 50 years, now we're going to undo all that by someone who's not even a good example of a nerd.
