It sucks I love 88's in my RM100 but 6550 are cool too. They've always had straight bottle as far as I know, hell I got them 7 years or so ago. Your crazy DTX saga inspired me to keep this thing. I've always meant to build it out but I keep getting other prettier amps and coming back to this ugly old bitch lol. I think I found this forum from being obsessed with big glass and stumbling on your threads.

I would have thought I'd get JJ 6550s since I loved the brand. Dunno why I kept the Winged Cs if JJs were available..but it's been a long time so hell if I remember.

Ah well. I really wanted KT88s but they wouldn't fit. Damn Peavey for making amps with the power tubes too close together

They are all pretty similar, really raunchy and fuzz like. And def have a lot of character and warmth unlike a lot of later day flat sou ding ss.
(except the xr400 which is a completely clean pa amp)
