I'm in Switzerland on business so I'm doing what everyone does on business trips, planning my next gear purchase to be made as soon as I get home.

I have an EVH 5150 Stealth 6L6 50 watt and I'd like to tighten it up a touch. Sometimes I think it sounds a little loose and / or fizzy (I have this with every amp I've ever owned, it's just me!).

Fortin 33
Pros: Simple, tight.
Cons: Only a boost.

All-Pedal Devil's Triad
Pros: cool distortion sound, boost function, delay and reverb.
Cons: Maybe too many unnecessary features.

I don't desperately need effects, I have a Helix HX Stomp that I use as a noisegate and effects unit already.

I really love my 5150, I just want it to be even better. That said, maybe the All-Pedal would be good as it has more tone options. On the other hand, the Fortin just does one thing but, but maybe that degree of focus will help me reach my goal.

Influence my decision, or tell me why these pedals suck I should buy a different boost pedal.

An interesting suggestion, I remember a lot of hype about the Dirty Tree a while back. I've just checked the Peper's website and it looks like the owner has just come back to work after having cancer, great news that he is healthy, but it could mean there is a hellish backlog built up in his order books.

I've messaged him on Instagram to see what the waiting time is like on a Dirty Tree.

Not an expert on these things, but I've heard/read the GUP Tech Grindr is similar/the same. I have one of these and a few of their other pedals. Good quality stuff.

man I suffered from the same illness but goddamn the 5150 stealth is probably one of the tightest amps I ever heard even with low tunings and without any boost.
do you have any other boosts? and even more important, are you sure you're happy with your cab? sounds like that's more of an issue

Believe me, I can cycle through all my cabs, some days some sound better than others to my ears, other days nothing sounds good. I have the same issue with my bass guitars.

I don't have any standalone boost pedals at the moment as I sold all my gear and focused only on bass for a while and budget isn't a concern, so I feel like buying a new pedal.

On the upside, Peper replied to me and said his turnaround time is pretty short at the moment, so I'll probably order as soon as I get home from Switzerland.

Get a Pepper's Dirty Tree, that way you have some options on the treble / bass settings vs the 33.
Yeah, probably one of my favorite boosts... and I never even touched the 33 side lmao. The TC side was where I lived and it ruled. One of those times that made me wonder why you'd want the real thing when the clone not only sounds as good, but also can be more versatile. If I was still using tube amps at the time, I woulda kept mine, but I was relying on solid state amps and IME the Dirty Tree didn't play with SS amps at all.

On top of that, the 33's one setting is extreme. It's not subtle at all. Given the Stealth is already tight as all hell as is, I think boosting with a stock 33 will be overkill.

So yeah, get the Dirty Tree (or any TC integrated Preamp clone) over both.

I've got the Dirty Tree and a Lichtlaerm Audio Aquaria. The Dirty Tree does that one thing well, but the Aquaria's EQ options are crazy good. I' haven't tried the Aesahaettr yet, but I'm willing to bet it is on par if not better sounding than DT and with the active EQ thing going on; way more versatile

Absolutely!

He is pretty responsive to requests on his "on" weeks. He has another job, so he basically works that job for a week, then comes back to making pedals for a week. In my few banters with him, he's been super responsive and did just come back from a cancer procedure.

I got my Dirty Tree about six months ago and it is one of my top boosts now (along with the Seymour Duncan 805 overdrive on a different rig and a Pro Tone Pedals Cor mid boost). The Dirty Tree is really a very different boost than either of those though. While the 805 is an overdrive and the Cor is more of a low-mid fat boost, the Dirty Tree is pretty much a dirty boost and an homage to the Fortin 33 on one side and the TC Integrated Preamp on the other. The DT side is a very aggressive with a steep bass cut, aggressive mid-to-top end and will give you the Meshuggah in a box type sound. I typically use the TC side so I can tailor the treble a touch and add a bit of bass content back into the pre-gain sound.

Can confirm the GUPTech is killer. I used to have a Dirty Tree and a Fortin Grind - all of them worked, but the Fortin was too limited, the Dirty Tree is solid but slightly more expensive, and the GUPTech has more options and cops the sounds you want for a very reasonable price.

I currently own the Devil's Triad and used to own a Fortin 33. As everyone else has mentioned, the Fortin 33 is extremely limited. You get one sound, and it's a great sound; but that's it. I'm in love with my Devil's Triad pedal, on the other hand.

Honestly, you could probably get the Devil's Triad to sound a lot like the Fortin 33 just from how aggressive of an OD it is. Recommended settings are Level at 1 o'clock, and Tone at 11 o'clock. Turning up the Level and Tone will make it grind like a chainsaw.

Thanks for the advice! Thank you also to @technomancer for the recommendation, I saw Ben Eller's video on the Dirty Tree and was impressed but it had fallen off my radar. Because of the recommendation in this thread, I placed my order with Peper's Pedals this morning.

I had the 33 and the Horizon precision drive at the same time. Still have the Horizon.
The Fortin isn't that good with a 5150 to me. The Horizon is far more versatile.

Dirt monger instruments Night serpent does the TC Electric integrated preamp and Fortin 33 trick. Also op if you have a hx stomp, try some of the boosts from that.

The Dirty Tree is an awesome boost if you want things to be tighter. I find it makes most of my amps TOO tight, but it works well with a looser amp, like a Recto.

My Dirty Tree turned up. It's true, it's so damn tight!

On the red channel of my 5150 III Stealth, it's too much, that channel doesn't really need a boost. On the blue channel, using it makes it like the red channel, but tighter and more controlled.

I generally prefer the TC setting for most of my guitars so I can control the bass levels easily, however with my Jim Root Tele, which is tuned to drop A, it sounds super fat already so using the DT setting seems to work best and boy, does it sound sweet.

I'm summary, a great pedal that does exactly what you need it to, which is priced really nicely and I got mine from the point of order, to it arriving on my doorstep in the UK, in a little over 3 weeks, which I consider to be a great turnaround time.
