I'm going to see them for the first time in July. They're a band I've been wanting to see for many years, but things haven't quite aligned until this tour. For example, I was planning to see them headline a festival about 10 years ago, then got an invitation to a close relative's wedding the...
I've seen Amon Amarth live 5 times and they've been great each time.
Ghost puts on a slick live show, but either you appreciate the music or you don't.
Way lower than I'd be expecting?
I know how much Edge / OFR bridges, Gotoh locking tuners etc. retail for to the public. Obviously the biggest companies will pay the least, due to their larger orders / bargaining power.
I have often wondered how much manufacturers pay for OEM parts compared...
I haven't used one, so can't comment on the ergonomics, but I really dislike the look of them. I prioritise playability and performance over aesthetics, so would compromise the look of the Evertune if I felt I'd benefit from it. I have absolutely no complaints about the tuning stability of my...
As one of the people thinking the Solar is overpriced, I think the other guitars you've mentioned are also overpriced.
I think Gibson LPs are one of the most (perhaps the most) overpriced guitars on the market. Excessively thick neck with a sticky gloss finish, inferior scale length, only 22...
Even if the Solar tubers are good, they will have cost less than Gotoh / Hipshot, so we're almost certainly selected to keep the manufacturing cost down...which isn't how I'd expect hardware to be selected for a £3k guitar.
While all tuners are not equal, I think people are often quick to...
That was my assumption.
I was viewing this Solar as inferior to E-II / Prestige, but more expensive than both...and also more expensive than some J. Customs (e.g. less limited models like the RG8720Z).
Perhaps cynical, but I didn't actually mean it as criticism of Ola - just highlighting that popularity / exposure of a brand is a big factor in the price, in addition to quality, specs etc. Gibson's prices wouldn't as high as they are if there weren't so many people deciding they want a Gibson...
I had assumed E-IIs have proper tops, not veneers...but I admit that is an assumption.
I've frequently seen J. Custom tops referred to as "veneer" / "not a proper top" on forums, but anything thicker than 2mm is really not a veneer.
I agree that if two guitars are equal, 15% is a small enough difference that most people would buy the one they prefer, rather than the cheapest one. I had perceived E-II Horizons as superior though (aesthetics, spec & quality), so the higher cost of the Solar seems unjustified...but I have...
This is kind of my point. The price has more to do with how much Ola feels he can exploit his fanbase, rather than what would be a reasonable price compared to other comparable guitars on the market.
Me being unfamiliar with the builder probably doesn't help me to value this French model at...
$3200 for an E-II (£2600 in the UK), is less than the £3000 ($3680) that these Solars are listed for.
Having never played / held either, I had perceived an E-II Horizon to be the superior guitar. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but that's what I'd buy out of the two even if the E-II was the same price...
Is 'Made in France' suddenly superior to MIA / MIJ, now that Ola Englund has guitars produced there? I could get a superior ESP (MIA) or Ibanez J. Custom (MIJ) for £3k.
The Indonesian Solar models are the same price point as an Indonesian Ibanez Premium - this makes sense. This new French...
