I use .62 Ernie Ball cobalt strings for drop A or A standard. Works great with little pitch drift. The RG7620 only has a 25.5 scale length so heavier strings are needed to avoid pitch drift. I’ve tried .58 Elixirs those still drifted too much in A but might hold up if you’re in B. .64 NYXLs also...
Thanks for the tip! My intonation setting is currently just enough to not make the 7th string lock screw stick out, but I'll definitely keep this in mind if it becomes an issue in the future with different string gauges.
I’ve put it all together now and the Gotoh is definitely a solid bridge. The Lo Pro 7 clearly has a more low profile feel since it was designed like that, but I actually preferred the feel of the Gotoh over the Lo Pro. I feel like trem action is smoother and it flutters better, but that could...
I just took the guitar apart and put the bridge on for testing last week then put it aside and went on a five day vacation. I'm doing a pickup swap to Duncan Black Winters as well and I've yet to get to it. I'll let you know how the trem feels after I finish the mod.
Yes, I ended up doing the swap since the dimensions on paper matched. It fits perfectly fine but I would recommend you swap the Lo Pro posts for the Gotoh ones since the groves seem different, but that's also drop in as well.
Between an accidentally completely stripped intonation lock down screw and old wearing knife edges on the Lo Pro 7 on my RG7620, and with the superior specs like brass trem block and screw tightened trem arm of the Gotoh, I’m leaning towards getting it a new bridge at the same time I’m getting...
Here are the photos. So the guitar isn’t as clean as I thought, but still very clean for it’s age. There’s just some scratches and dings here and there that I’m sure would be worse if I had it for 20 years. The finish feels slicker than my PIA’s, probably because they used different paints back...
So a while back I posted about wanting a mahogany 7 string, and I posted in that thread that I found a nicely priced K-7, and I also posted saying I don't want an RG7620 because its scarf jointed neck. But... I found one for 565 USD for sale in Beijing (turns out these things are even less...
I don’t really like the Sabre shape for 7 strings as I mentioned, and an RG2027X is pretty hard to find (probably out of my price range even if I do find one). I was planning to just settle with a basswood prestige if I couldn’t find a mahogany one in my price range, tonewood is not the biggest...
I like the tone of mahogany. I'm familiar with it and I know it sounds good. Whereas I never had a basswood guitar. Not saying it's bad, but I prefer what I'm used to.
