I didn't know there was any criticism for the CG quality. I thought all the reaction to that movie was that Will Smith isn't so much acting as just being himself, which is not the expected character for Genie.

Someone on Facebook posted a side-by-side of Will Smith and Tobias Funke painted blue and I really couldn't unsee it.

I mean at this point, with Robin Williams being dead, no one's going to live up to the expectations anyways. That said, Will Smith certainly isn't the worst person that could have been cast for that role.

Yeh, Smith isn't the worst for sure. I think it's a role that needs someone with a big character like that. I just hope that he does actually do some acting and not just be himself. I've described it before - he's absolutely one of that actors that doesn't so much play a part as just show up and be Will Smith. It works well when the part is just "Will Smith in x scenario", but this isn't really that case. We'll have to see how it turns out I guess.

Oh, please. They released images of genie, and got a resounding  from basically everyone. It's a laughing stock before the film has even come out.

The new Aladdin genie should have been Adam Sandler instead.

I'm willing to give a Will Smith Genie a chance. Adam Sandler? Not a chance.

I still just buy guitars because they're cool.

I've had enough guitars (cheap and expensive) to realize that unless its a complete of junk I can play it just fine and I still sound the same.

5150 and it's descendants only sound good for black metal and Gojira otherwise I fucking hate hearing them in death metal and seeing them recommended ad nauseam by everyone everywhere

They just work in hard rock and anything heavier beyond that, sometimes you don't even know it's a 5150, 6505 etc. Obviously they're often recommended because they aren't too expensive, just very common amps for several reasons. Like Marshalls or Mesa Boogie Rectifiers, just iconic amps.

I suppose the argument changes depending on how you define "descendants". From what I've seen, it seems like a huge amount of high gain sounds, be it amps or models or whatever, are basically just trying to nail what the 5150 already did, maybe with a bit of it's own flavor. It's one of the biggest things that turns me off from digital models, since it seems like every model is just trying another way to sound like a 5150. Conveniences regarding usability, volume and recording aside, it's sort of like:
Spend $500 to get a used 5150? Or spend $3000+ on a digital modeller, impulse packs, FRFR cabs, etc., that ultimately are trying to sound like that same 5150 in the first place.

I often play a warlock and metal zone into a solidstate amp. It sounds fantastic.

black tusk is the worst band to come out of the mid 2000s GA sludge metal scene. Baroness, Kylesa and Mastodon all manage to blend hardcore and punkish elements with sludge/prog far better than black tusk ever has.

Why not if early to mid 90's solid state death metal tone is what you want, with a decent cab of course. Actually while I'm into pretty modern tones generally that kind of rig could be very much fun. Marshall Valvestate, Peavey Supreme, old Crate amplifiers... something like that into 4x12" cab.
