I keep meaning to adventure out into other stuff but outside of a few "staples" I've tried, I haven't had much wild game on my table. I know a few guys that are avid hunters, so when they get a good haul they pass out some of the catch to the guys they know that enjoy it. Something I'd like to get into someday but I don't really have the time (or funds ) for yet another hobby right now.

Yeah, Turkey was one of the only things I've tried that did not taste better wild. Tasted exactly how you described, very leathery and almost dirt-like.

i mean you don't have to hunt them to eat them, if you can find a local exotic meat distributor/butcher they prob carry some stuff like that, or you could look into seeing if one would be willing to ship to you. if you want just a little taste start with exotic jerkys on amazon

The processor vacuum packs everything, and they dry age the meat before that, so it holds up very, very well. I've been doing this going on five years now and I've never had any issues.

Just be sure to let the farmer and/or processor know that you want it packed like that. It costs like fifty cents more a pound, but you don't want 250lbs of beef in butcher paper.

Yeah, that'd be a great plan unless our freezer was already full of everything
My dad's neighbor in Australia bought a whole cow (not the bones and stuff obviously) once just before I went there, so every time we went to his place we'd dig in his freezer and see what part of the animal we'd find this time. They were all mixed and just thrown in there, so you never knew what you'd find. They were in labeled vacuum bags at least. All really awesome and apparently he only paid like a couple of steaks worth for the whole animal.

And yeah, like Kaura said, reindeer meat is really good. Once when we were visiting my wife's grandparents, they gave us a couple of kilos of elk meat that her grandpa had shot. That was really good stuff too, I just cut it into steaks and cooked it in butter + seasoned it a little with salt and pepper, and I wouldn't have been able to tell whether it was elk or cow.

Add me to the reindeer fanclub. Probably tied with moose for my #1 game. I also think reindeer is an excellent gateway-game, the herbal undertone is mild and pleasant.

Mutton is very gamey, I'll give you that. I had some goat sausages a few months ago that were really delicious.

I have no idea why goat meat is so difficult to get over here though....oh wait, thats because no-one gives a shit about goat and sheep is superior.:fawk:

I guess this is the unpopular opinion here, but I like the gamey taste.

Vacuum sealed makes sense. This is probably the final bit of info to push me over the edge into buying a deep freeze (last time I went, I ended up with a second fridge, dammit).

Also, I don't know if this is unpopular, but i will join the chorus in favor of elk and buffalo; both are really good.

Yes, but please do not boil It.
Some people go crazy for boiled chicken, which tastes like a car tire.
I'd rather have a flebo for dinner than boiled chicken.

No man that's where you're wrong. Boil some chicken, let it rest a few days on the back of the fridge, then microwave it. That's where it's at it's best. Because everybody knows microwave makes everything taste much better...
