I think this is a really great breakdown of the subject, and I share your feelings on this. I don't really care if people buy and enjoy these copies. It's the defense and justification of the practice that sometimes gets me upset, like saying it's OK because the original is overpriced. I just always find the level of acceptability it has in the guitar community to be interesting, as opposed to others. I've used this example before, but some people won't be caught dead wearing fake Jordans, while others will show off a Chibson with pride.

    Here goes:

    MegaDeth and Slayer suck. Baaaad.

Both band's vocals are like a goofy parody of metal, MegaDeth's songs just aren't very good and Slayer sounds like a band falling down a flight of stairs most of time.

Arguably, all of metal can be read as almost a parody. I find it's much easier to enjoy metal if you don't take it seriously. Can't parody a parody and all that, I guess.

But I'll give you that Megadeth is suuuuuuuuper hit and miss though. Rust In Peace = win, but lots of their material is pretty cookie cutter stuff with terrible vocals all over it.

Megadeth is alright. I like most of their stuff up to Countdown to extinction but Mustaine always sounds like he's straining trying to take a dump when he sings.
For slayer I really only like seasons of the abyss and south of heaven. I can't stand their earlier material. For every good solid rhythm riff they had they'd fuck it up with solos that rival john cage for unpleasantness.

I don't understand why people like cannibal corpse. They sound like a muddy hive of bees and the vocals are basically what it sounds like when I'm clearing my throat. I like some of their riffs and some of their song lyrics are entertaining in a ridiculous way (as shown by the lounge versions of hammer smashed face). Out of all the 90s DM bands they're probably the only one besides autopsy that I absolutely can't stand. I've tried numerous times to get into their music and it's just so tedious to listen to.

I'd go so far as to say all of music can be read as a parody. Sure, you could spend your entire life analyzing how great Beethoven was and trying to understand what made him tick, musically, and take it all very seriously, but, at the end of the day, 99% of people love Beethoven because of "DUNDUNDUN DUUUUUH ..... ....... DUNDUNDUN DUUUUUH!!!!"

I've dug so deep into the Metal dumpster that Cannibal Corpse sounds like cleanly-produced Pop Metal to me now.

Light agree, though some of Hanneman's riffs are killer (War Ensemble)

Digital recording and the wide availability of quality mics/preamps/etc. have not negated the validity of lo-fi production as an aesthetic choice.

They've heightened it. Anyone can make it sound decent nowadays.

Still better than a Steinberger with a reverse headstock.

Dean headstocks are basically the guitar equivalent of genital warts.

They're fine on a V... but god damn it, why do they insist on throwing it on a Cadillac?!

There is also the “PRS” style double cut that has that STUPID headstock instead of one of their 3x3 head stocks.

Moser makes some great guitars, and has plenty of non-pointy shapes. It's a shame folks don't look into Moser, even for super strats.
