The Ibanez RGA121 is great and you can get it really cheap. If you're lucky you can get two for that price :p

Edit: Just to clarify: it's a great guitar overall. I'm actually not sure if it's a perfect fit for your needs but I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Unfortunately I can only find one Faded Explorer and it’s $1100 on Reverb and any other Gibson Explorer I see is around $1000 at least. So I thought maybe an Epiphone and upgrade the pickups, but at that point there may already be too much compromise to warrant then cost of that maybe, which sucks lol cuz I wanted to be like Skwisgaar and :/

But, this did make me realize a 24.75” neck could do just as well, but I wanted 24 frets, but I did find the LTD Black Metal single cut.

    https://www.zzounds.com/item--ESPECBKM

Which the only discprepency is the fact that it has a passive pickup, but from what I understand, the black winter (a blackened black winter?) pickups are cool.

But anyways, I’m still looking for explorers but am not feeling like they are not too many of the Faded explorers around? And thanks :)

That’s been a guitar I’ve been interested in for awhile. I actually had a blackjack Atx C-8 awhile back (and rue getting rid of it). I remember not liking the feel of the sls’s tgough, so I am sort of hesitant. But, used, you can get um for around $500 bucks, which is amazing value for what you get, so I have been keeping up on em. Thanks :)

Not anymore you can't, it's unfortunately kinda gone the way of the 550.

Edit- this is much more me bitching about that than feeling a need to correct.

On topic, you could check out the discontinued Schecter Banshee from a couple years ago. Nice neck, locking tuners, Hipshot, and Nazgul/Sentient pickups. It's not too hard to find them for 400-500 used.

Any ding dang old Korean Schecter, Ltd or mid 00s Ibby with specs to your taste

Schec: Blackjack Atx (baritone and flat black and blackouts)

Ibanez mid 00s MIK: Sz, Sz prestige, AXS32 and Mike Mushok Sz sig

Late 00s Indo Ibanez that have good specs and designs but definitely try before you buy: RGTEXFX, MTM2, ICT700

Jackson: SLSMG, DKMG (Christian Olde Werbers Maybe?!)

    Yamaha: AES

Ltd: EC 1k, Viper 1k, MH1kNT, etc 401 or 400s come in matte black too but some years are Indo or Chinese (which ain’t bad)

MIJ Ibanez models like the AX1220 and S Classics can be had way under budget too for pickup upgrades

Oddball stuff like USA Washburns and USA Peavys can be had
    For around that much too.

what, there are quite a few on ebay right now for less than $1000. finding them for ~$700 is less common than they were a few years ago since their value went up again, sure, but it's definitely doable. They seem to be going for $700-$1100 nowadays.

Sure, they're within OP's budget, but if you read the post that I was replying to again, you'll see that's not what I was disputing. 700-1100 is hardly "really cheap" and you certainly can't count on buying two on a 1k and under budget.

For 700-1000, skip the indo/korean junk and get something MIA or MIJ used.

+1 for the guy that suggested a used Ibanez RGA prestige. I'm in love with the 121H, and really need to get one eventually.

Oh, ahh yes, I see. Yeah, if they were actually "really cheap" I'd have all the colors they came in by now.

Yeah, that budget is that sweet spot where you can, and should, be looking at higher-quality used guitars rather than OK new guitars.

For your budget, a used Japanese fixed bridge RG would be a pretty solid choice, especially if you can find a few to play first to make sure you like it.

That or just buy a RG550 and block the bridge. Everyone should own a 550. :)

EDIT - also, non-consensus opinion here, and this speaks to my personal gewar biases as much as anything... but, Fender has been doing great work for the past 5-7 years, and if you happen to find a used Strat that you like, replacing the pickguard with a H-H pickguard and putting in two higher output humbuckers, and then just setting the trem flush with the body with the screws cranked down in the trem cavity to hold it flat would give you a pretty solid, definitely not run of the mill hard rock and metal guitar.

I have pretty much identical taste in guitars as you, and I've owned an M-1.[IMG]
It was an absolutely sick guitar and I miss it. The problem was that I was scammed and bought a factory second unknowingly. Granted it was significantly cheaper than any I found elsewhere online at the time and maybe paid the right price for it, it just always pissed me off.

If you have the patience to find a used one in your budget I think you should get one. It's what you want and you won't be disappointed. Mine was quite heavy, and the alder/maple/ebony combo just seemed to put it in the sweet spot of not too boomy, not too bright... You might have to settle for some dings for 1000 USD though.

Another guitar that hasn't been thrown out there is the Jackson SLSMG.
It's another Japanese guitar, and though I haven't even played one I've been lusting after/looking for one in the right condition for awhile now. It certainly suits your/our aesthetic tastes and your desired specs. I'm curious about how they sound with the thin mahogany body.

I also have a USA HT6 Juggernaut and I would caution you to try the pickups out before you commit, since you mentioned maybe going for an import HT6. I'm not a huge Amon Amarth guy but I would suggest that Juggernauts/the import pickups are kinda far-removed from EMG 81s and Amon Amarth tone.

    Happy searching :)

Thank you for the feed back and the suggestions! I pretty much need something that I can play for about a year since I just have no guitar I can really practice metal on besides my RG8, (a Gibson 339 and a squire telecaster don’t really lend themselves to that kinda riffing lol) otherwise, I wouldn’t mind being patient and waiting til I saved enough for the M-1 or had one pop used I could afford — though, they seem like an obscure guitar. But I’m really glad to hear you thoughts on the guitar and if not this time around, I think I will get one eventually because, it just seems so suited to my taste.

Also, did you see up in the comments on this page, someone suggested the Jericho Elite Ignition? I think it looks amazing so I’m just pointing it out because I think you may like it! I don’t know anything about Jericho, but my curiosity is more than piqued.
