I am going to build a guitar for myself based on esp custom arrow.. But a 7 string with wizard neck profile.
I am pretty much sure how its going to look but am torn between [IMG]

Ya. I know. Only difference is size of inlay but I just dont know which one I like more.

I made a paper template of the bigger one and put that on the neck of my ibby 7.[IMG]

I do like it but perhaps it would be an oversized inlay on the v shape of another world.

Guys. Help me out. Not with which is better but what would suit a v shaped guitar according to you.
And I am a stupid noob, I know that so no need to remind me.
    Thanks

Though question mate. I personally don't like inlays much. Although i admit i would like to build one with alien hyeroglyphics inlays...

I'd personally scale the inlay down to around 2/3rds of it's current size so it's not near the edge of the fretboard. That's just my preference though, it's a cool inlay if you're into tribal.

Between the two options I'd go with the second one. It seems more proportionate with the guitar. The first one is way too much and it takes away the focus from the rest of the instrument.

I'd go with the smaller one if I had to choose for myself.

Thanks guys. I'm not generally a great fan of tribal tatoos on a guitar but I do think this will look absolutely BADASS on this 'Son of Esp Alexi Katakana and Esp Katana 7'..

Yeah you ideally want to keep the inlay inside the edge of the fingerboard, you'll see the edge of the inlay material (which can be fine when designed like that) but you run the risk of wood chipping out at the narrow points near the edge.

I will be using a sharp knife like one used to cut glass to dig out inlay grooves as I don't have the dremel tool. So chipping risk should be minimised. Yet, keeping a distance of few mm from the edge will actually show my full inlay more effectively. Thanks.

Oh. Now I get why I am getting advices of keeping inlay away from edges. The pic I uploaded is the best example of why we shouldn't edit guitar pictures on you android phone. :lol
The inlay is on the edge of the fingerboard but that will be rectified in the build and the final plan.

    +1

What about color? Is it going to be pearl? It might look cool if you could do it in something that was yellowish or goldish.

There is yellow/gold celluloid sheets that would match the body more. Its a bit odd with yellow pinstriping, pearl inlay, then an abalone ESP inlay.

This is what I have got. And the ESP logo will be of the same material. Still odd? Let me know

Edit. It is a little bit pale than the photo.
