*spot Run - whoops at the title So finally another NGD, I had sworn blind after my last NGD it would be my last, but as many astute posters pointed out.. it was never going to stay that way! Ever since I was a kid I have been obsessed with Orange ( much to my parents distain I had an orange room, with orange floors, walls and curtains!) so when I saw this appear on the Ibanez website.. well I was really left with no choice! I tried to track one down in Europe for months to no avail, and just as I had given up - I was in the hospital with my wife as my son was born, attempting to sleep after a very long labour and one appeared in Germany! out comes the credit card! Anyway - the reason we are here first..PHOTOS: Well now the pictures are out the way (really hard to capture the finish, it has a great burst with the grain coming through, and is beautifully metallic) Spec: neck type Super Wizard HP 5pc Maple/Walnut neck body Ash body fretboard Bound Birdseye Maple fretboard w/Black dot inlay fret Jumbo frets w/Prestige fret edge treatment bridge Edge tremolo bridge neck pickup DiMarzio® Fusion Edge (H) neck pickup (Passive/Ceramic) bridge pickup DiMarzio® Fusion Edge (H) bridge pickup (Passive/Ceramic) hardware color Cosmo black I have always been a bit of an Ibanez fan boy ever since borrowing a friends RG550 DY back in the early 90's, and no matter what else I try I always come back to a good ole MIJ Ibanez. I already own a few early 90's 550's as work horses, but for me Ibanez has that Mojo, that keeps me feeling creative for hours. This guitar is no exception. Out the box, it needed a damn good set up (I could drive a bus under the strings) and in true Ibanez fashion, I needed to shim the neck and remove the shim in the nut - now it plays like a dream. The birdseye fretboard is a lovely touch, and I absolutely love it! The Fusion pick ups.. they are OK, not my favorite picks ups by a long shot, but for an OEM pick up from DiMarzio they are surprisingly better than expected. I did speak to someone at DiMarzio so in case anyone if wondering the tone / output this is their reply: "The Fusion Edge models are comparable to the Illuminator, Titan, Ionizer and D Activator (bridge model only) in terms of overall sound and output levels. " I will probably end up swapping the PUPS out for my fav combo of Crunchlab and Liquifire, but that's if I can track them down in white in the EU (easier said that done) The only downside so far, is the fact it didn't come with the GOTOH MG-T as advertised ( i'm guessing as this is a spot model the shops are cutting and pasting spec from other Prestige lines) But I will be replacing them in due course. Apart from that, the quality is as expected from a MIJ Prestige line, great fret work, no dead spots, nice fret ends and binding and I havent put her down in 2 weeks. The downside is I now need to sell my Custom Hapas, which is disappointing, but with a new kid I cant afford 2 guitars over the 1500 mark, and the Hapas doesn't have a floating bridge (and its not Orange ) I will probably upload some sound files with the Fusions before I replace them, but between bottles and dirty diapers, it may not be for a while!
