I call it, ahem, The Rooster. Have no idea who made it, or when. No serial #, no maker name, nothing in control cavity or neck pocket to indicate maker. The inlay, if inlay it is, isn't very well done; better than I could do, but well... look especially at the southwestern navajo-style motif on the front. Very rough. If it was a decal, I don't think it would have been this rough. I don't think this is a high-end guitar, but that is just a guess. Probably Asian, cause everything is these days, but who knows?

I love it and have no interest in selling... just trying to learn more about it. Damn good guitar, plays beautifully and sounds wonderful, both amplified and acoustically, even with not very fresh strings. I bought it off CL for $200 with fitted case. I know why the guy sold it: the neck is off-center slightly, making the high E run off the fretboard around fret 15. This was an easy fix, though, and now it playeth like buttah.

Any info or wise thoughts, guys n gals?

    Cheers,
    JohnnyB

Looks like an eBay special. There are all kinds of Chinese made guitars with over the top and inlay, similar to this.

I can't figure out this rooster pose. Roosters can't really fly, it's not like divebombing like an eagle. I would say that the roosters are upside down, except for that they walk on the ground. So it's perpendicular. Neat guitar but I just can't get over this.

It actually is an unfortunate rendition of a Japanese phoenix with its wings tucked in instead of spread. This makes it look more like a rooster but its the tail feathers that give it away. As for the guitar itself....still looks pretty sick and if it plays great then rock the rooster!!!

Clearly this guitar is for playing cock-rock.

Well, that is precisely what my son plays on it.

Thanks for the tip. I looked it up, and the phoenix is a common figure in Asia, so there is a Japanese one, a Chinese one and a Korean one, probably others. It is well-enough made to be a Japanese guitar, but it seems unlikely that a MIJ guitar would carry no badge.

That would be my guess, too. Not even sure it's real inlay, but some of it is too rough to be anything but.

It really is, and is much nicer than my lousy pics. I watched it on CL for weeks, seeing it but not really seeing it, and suddenly said OMG and bought it. HeeHee, the seller though he was skinning me, but he gave away a really nice guitar.

I was leaning more towards the fact that it was a copy of a Japanese phoenix. Not necessarily made in Japan.
