Anyone know what type of finish does the Duvell Gothic have?

Is it like the matte finish which eventually turns shiny or glossy where it comes into contact with the elbow and hand?

I’m not claiming to know the exact answer but it looks closer to a Kiesel-style “raw tone” finish than an esp type “ satin black”

I have a Duvell QATSI (satin finish) for more than a year, no glossing yet. I clean it every once in a while with Dunlop carnauba wax. This looks like the same finish.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a question for the Mayones experts myself.

Why are Mayones stainless frets not polished to a gloss like other brands (Ibanez, schecter, suhr etc). The frets are not dull but not really mirror finish either. Love them anyway, just curious.

Have you tried 0000 steel wool on the frets?

Which opens the door for a polish joke:

How many poles does it take to polish guitar frets?

Four. One to hold the steel wool and 3 to push the guitar back and forth across the work table.:miniwang:

Any finish like that is going to gloss up over time wherever the hand anchors during playing. Some are worse than others but black is the one that shows this glossing the most, for better or for worse. I don't mind the look at all. Play wear to me is something to be proud of, not hide.

I usually do this with nickel frets but assumed SS would not need steel wool.
