I don't normally like pink guitars, but I'd have no problem playing that one.

Fair do's Lloyd. TBH, this one was a bit of fun... Turned out nice though. It's got a lovely feeling neck carve and, although pink guitars are nothing new, it'll get you noticed :)

I agree it turned out nice. Just not the colour I'd normally go for haha. I could definitely see an 80's hair metal band playing though haha. Add some black stripes and I could totally see Satchel from Steel Panther playing it.

What's been happening in the Kemp workshop this week so far...

Firstly, sorting out some wood for the new batch of customs just started, including this Ash (custom 7-string SD carvetop) body with Maple neck and Flame Maple fretboard...

And today I've been carving the Leopardwood neck...

    that leopard wood looks fantastic.

is it hard to work with? how well does it take stain?

Unlike Lacewood, which Leopardwood is often confused with, it's quite a hard wood - between Rock Maple and Wenge, but with the mildly softer flecks which can tear out a little when scraping.

No idea how it takes stain, TBH. This build is staying completely natural. However, the Leopardwood is so intense in colour (and prone to bleeding orange pigment) that you're probably limited on colours that would work.

Does look great though, doesn't it ☺

About to get to work on finishing the Leopardwood DC - been waiting two weeks for Tru-Oil delivery. In the meantime, the latest batch of (Maple) necks, including a 7-string, now ready for carving...

Leopardwood thru-neck looking a little bit dull as I finish sand it... That'll all change tomorrow ☺

    Thank you sir ☺️

For a natural/oil finish, I start at 180 to clean up any marks left from routing and/or spindle sanding. Working through 240, 320 and 400 grit. Painted guitars I'll stop at 240 before sealer and primer goes on.

It's full steam ahead with the next build whilst I'm slapping those Tru-Oil coats on the Leopardwood DC. In all it's Maple glory... it's another 6-string custom DC. The finish on this is going to be quite exquisite, but you'll have to wait until it's done to find out what it will look like [IMG]

More routing and messy shenanigans in the Kemp workshop today. Started working some more on the competition winner build which is a Korina DC 6-string with Floyd and Seymour Duncan HSS pickups. Edit: and only 24.75" scale length, not something I do often.

First up, some sawdust [IMG] ...

    All cleaned up...

Yeah, I can imagine wiring up all those switches is a massive PITA. I was going to get a friend who's building me a guitar pretty soon (for free, even!) to put a pair in said guitar. But the cost and all that wiring made me decide against it.
