Does anyone know if John Petrucci will ever put out another solo album?
In the last GuitarWorld, he said that he already had the material written and was going to be working on releasing it after the new DT comes out.
After hearing this I hope he never does...
Why? Sounds more genuine than the new album, even if it is pretty simplistic.
I somewhat enjoyed his previous solo effort, but this seems to be shaping up pretty meh.
The only G3 concert I have ever attended was when the line up consisted of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and John Petrucci. To me, this was the the "ultimate lineup!" Except no one knew what John Petrucci was going to play. There was speculation he would do some LTE songs and I think Paradigm Shift was played, I can't quite recall. Anyways, the lights dim, the crowd cheers, and then BOOM! Petrucci opens with Jaws of Life!!!! If you have only heard the recorded version, you are missing out on something and something is a 7 string guitar through a "Wall of Road Kings."...
What made it even cooler though was the fact no one was sure Petrucci could write good solo material. Well, Jaws of Life was incredible and remains on my "Songs I'd Like to Play Someday" list.
Vai played an awesome set too! Then Satriani played some stuff...
Reminds me of the Scott Doesn't Know song from Eurotrip... That riff.
^This. That was exactly what I heard the first time I listened. Also made the song kind of a disappointment just because of that...
Well now that we know he is coming out with a new solo album.....I wonder if we may ever see another instructional DVD? Rock Disciple was GREAT but it would be nice to see a follow up.
Lucky. My only G3 experience was Satch, Vai, and Robert Fripp. I love King Crimson, and I like it when he opens with his soundscape stuff, but when you've got a whole set entirely of soundscapes, it get's stale quickly.
Happy Birthday JP!
I was sat up on a balcony, at the side. Didn't even realise the guy was on stage because he was sitting at the back, totally hidden.
I didn't know any of his songs. About 10 mins in, I was thinking 'wow, this intro music is long'.
Won't it just sound like DT? It seems like it's Petrucci's band anyway
Im looking forward to what he comes out with. Across the scope of Petrucci's work, what would you guys recommend as his best five songs ever recorded and released? Solo or DT, Id like to get more into his music.
WOW! Thank you! I cant wait to go through these after work
I remember seeing that version of G3 too and had exactly the same thought.
I love KC, though. Would probably have been a smarter move of Fripp to mix up the soundscapes with one or two KC songs. Lots of material to choose from. The night I saw them Vai and band stole the show. They put on an incredible show.
