Not sure how many people here know of the great stuff that has been pumping out of Iceland's black metal scene over the past few years, so I wanted to post some bands and videos to spread the greatness that is coming from there. Hopefully some of you will become new fans of some of these talented musicians.

No, you're reading and hearing that correctly.

Since you mentioned Carpe Noctem and I am playing in a side project of and with Árni I totally recommend Árstíðir Lífsins.

They basically combine Black Metal, Classic and Folkparts with some awesome choirs.

^That is excellent! Interested to hear this side project you mention as well.

It isn't in anyway Black Metal related. I'm part of the Wöljager band.

This is a dark folk project with lower-german lyrics and heavily inspired by traditional life in the german moor countryside in the 19th and early 20th century.

If you're into some more acoustic dark stuff I'd recommend it, too, of course.

Memberwise it is basically a full side project of Árstíðir Lífsins, which is quite great since Marcel has a fantastic clean voice, too.

I just listened to it. I'm enjoying it! What is your role in the project?

That is certainly an excellent start! Enjoy Prophecy Fest!!!

I'm hoping to get to Iceland next year to perform (potentially) with some of the bands I've posted. I'm in Chaos Moon with Alex, and he has a project called Skáphe with Dagur from Misthyrming. So we may try to get over there next year to play a show. Not entirely sure yet. Just an idea at the moment.

    Glad you're enjoying it!

Here's some more great stuff. Almyrkvi. A solo project of Garðar S. Jónsson from Simara. I love the atmosphere on this EP.

    Fun fact:

I used to be Dynfari's live guitarist (and once their live accordionist)

Added some nice textures and heaviness to the music with my 8 string.

A lot of these guys used to be friends of mine while I was living in Iceland. Great scene.
