Take out the "mix" knob & I bet you couldn't tell it from a regular one. It'll be interesting to see how much they'll be charging for this one.

If I want a Tube Screamer circuit with a clean blend, I'll get a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive Mod.

That's just it. You could get a Sparkle Drive or one of about 50 other OD pedals that have a "mix/blend" knob that'll cost (quite possibly) a lot less than the 'newest' TS variant.

Or find a used VFE Focus that has a lot of adjustment of the amount of clean boost, smoothing and tightening, as well as how much it's mixed in.

The Korg nutube is a real vacuum tube, runs on 9v, 30,000 runtime hours. First of many applications for this new tech.

I came in here full expecting a Tube Screamer that scoops the mids even further and benefits those who play Nu Metal, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Lemme be the first to say it: Fuuuuuuuuuuucckkkkk dat! I have plenty of boosts/tube screamer type pedals that even if this pedal didn't sound meh, it'd be of no use.

    TS Mini = home run
Nu Tube Screamer = foul ball

I don't *really* get the point. I guess I'd just be happier if they branded it as something other than a Tubescreamer variant.

I mean, I think the whole nu-tube thing is pretty cool and there's room in the market for more pedals that use tubes for drive in various ways (that aren't just gimmicky LED lit underpowered tubes for show). But why make it a "tubescreamer"? Tubescreamers have already carved themselves a nice niche as a pedal that you put in front of a tube amp to change its drive characteristics in a particular way. There doesn't need to be a tube in the pedal to do that. So without seeing the circuit in there, I kind of feel like they took an interesting new technology and force-fit it into a role that doesn't require it and probably doesn't really take full advantage of it.

Because they think the name "Tube Screamer" will help sell it to rubes who just have it because it says "Tube Screamer."

i mean this is literally a rebranding of a pedal that already exists with a new tube type. so whatever. it's not like all the old tubescreamers explode when this comes out.

IMO The point is simply to advertise the nu tube for Korg to put it on the map. Apparently the nu tube has been out since 2015, yet basically no one heard of it until now. Every guitarist knows what a tube screamer is, so associating it with the tube screamer name will bring attention to the nu tube.

First off, they're taking a huge gamble introducing it by putting it into a Tubescreamer. There are already (if you include both 808 & TS-9 versions) well over a dozen variants of the same pedal, so if this one comes out sounding just like the others, then their 'big introduction' of the "nu tube" technology will be a wasted effort. If they really wanted to show it off, they should have put it into an all new pedal. I can see why they did, like you said, the Tubescreamer has a firmly cemented legacy, so people will check it out. However, those same people are SO familiar with the pedal, that if this addition doesn't make a huge difference, the only real sales they are going to get are from collectors who buy all of them.

dude it's just an update on this pedal with a different name.

the brand identity of the tubescreamer isn't going to magically vanish. they've been doing this for years.

Never really thought about the Maxon one. I wasn't suggesting that TS sales are going to plummet, I'm just thinking that they might be getting their hopes up with yet another variant.
