I think that sounds good also, lol. Not a tone I would love all the time, but definitely unique. I think if you turned the hi down some it could be a killer tone.

I recently got a HM300, and still trying to figure out how to use it.

You know you have to do a Metal Zone next, right?

And I like the tone too.

Then again, various Peavey Bandits or a Metal Zone (set with care!) in to a decent clean amp sound better to me than around 85% of the amps on the market.

(To illustrate my weirdness, I've always described my ideal distortion as Eric Johnson suffering a sever psychotic break and trying to murder the audience with his tone, but keeping it good and smooth sounding.)

I was expecting a monstrosity and I was pleasantly surprised as it was monstrous, but in a good way. Better than expected.

I also have the HM300 which is cool, but I mainly use in a fuzzy context.

I need to try boosting it.

The HM300 kind of reminds me of a Boss DS-1, but with a massive bass boost knob, and a massive mid boost or scoop knob. I swear it is prefect for those old Nirvana tones straight in. I have boosted mine, and I think it is cool if you scoop the mids some. It is capable of some crazy bassy, scooped mids tones.

Then, if I am using it to boost something else, I usually go in the opposite direction. Lower the bass, and raise the mids, but usually never over 2-3 oclock It gets real nasty after that, lol. People complain about the cocked wah tone.... I am not sure what this tone is, but it makes cocked wah sound normal.

Definitely a nice different flavor to add to the pile. I can definitely say I dont know of any other pedals that sound like it.

Dig it. I’m hearing it as a single track intro on the left before drums/bass kick in.

Fuck it man, way to be original. Least it doesn’t sound like every other tone out there. Props.

reminds me of my modded metal zone when I crank the mid sweep on it. Chainsawy but still useful.

Where’s your amp? Getting the classic HM2 tone involves an amp, not cranking it into your interface.

the DST4 preamp is my "amp".

it's actually an ART DST 80/80 but i'm using the preamp section only.

I’ve spent a lot of time using the HM300 with a few different amps by itself and stacked with other pedals. My favorite sounds came from using it as a boost the same way you would use a tube screamer. I usually have the level around 3/4, bass maxed, mids almost maxed (backed off very slightly, barely less than max) and gain on zero. It sounds absolutely evil this way, especially in front of a 5150 or jcm. It seems like everyone tries to just max everything on these (and the HM2 for that matter) but to me that only sounds good through my teal stripe bandit’s clean going through a 4x12, go figure right.

i can tell you the key to my original post's tone is stacking gain on top of gain on top of gain.

I use my DST 80/80 on the "clean tube" channel, but with nearly dimed gain, so it's already really crunchy, then i'm slamming it with the HM-2(dimed across the board, of course), then i'm slamming the HM2 with the 33 at about 2 o'clock, then i'm slamming the 33 with Fluence moderns on voice 1.

I tried my HM300 boosted with my TC electronic integrated preamp, into my axe fx on a clean patch, sounded really cool. Real grindy.

The patch was a pristine-clean bassman model though, I'll have to try it on something crunchy next.
