So this just landed from FeelGoodWood.

I just love it, looks like a dragon demon. With a nice flame/quilt at the edges.

Any ideas? I need to preserve the demon on the face of the guitar but can't seem to plan a design without pickups getting in the way. Maybe a meshuggah style bridge pickup only?

Yeahhhhh! V! May not be long enough tho... good plan! My friend has a Jackson V, I'll measure it.

Edit: just realised my 'like' put you on exactly 500 'likes'. Do I win a prize?

Edit edit: and if I was to sell it to you, how much is shipping to the Battlestar Galactica?

if a Jackson king v is too big, maybe a rhodes or gibson but rear-loaded.

maybe you can trace a strat shape on it to give us an idea what size the planks are?

and no shipping needed....ill fly to you for that epic piece :agreed:

I bet with some careful EQing you could get some humbucker-like tones. And beautiful cleans, of course.

    Much Opeth.

I can see you've got the bug now, J-Mac! Stoked for you on that piece. I follow that seller on the bay as well - always has nice stuff in stock at decent prices.

I'd go for a bridge pup only on that one. Superstrat or V if it's wide enough.

Make the guitar you want. Don't base it on the wood. You'll probably regret it when you don't have the features you really want.

Has anyone really ever regretted a single hum guitar though? They're just fun.

Finally found the time (and my son's crayons) to get an idea of body shapes.

    RG template:

Fun fact: I've made body templates by tracing 6, 7 & 8 string Ibanez RGs and they are all identical.

In red - a rough sketch of a V. In order to keep all the demon features the bridge pup has to be placed to give a 30" scale. I've played the 29.4" Ibanez M80M so it may not be a problem. There is also an Edge Fx 8 string bridge on eBay at the moment. The actual V body might be on the large side though! I'd like some help please m'dudes.

The piezo idea is fun though, that would maybe allow a 27" ish scale 8 string...?

I think the RG profile gives you the most wood for the buck, and it's of course always comfortable to actually play, sitting or otherwise! That grain though.. wow it sure is impressive!

It's a shame that neither shape keeps that beautiful flame on the edges. Maybe you should make a double neck :D
