    Hi everyone.

First of all, :imnew: but i want to share a table i made in order to pick the set you might need for the tuning you want.

You'll find string set recommandations for:
    - 24.75" neck
    - 25.5" neck
    - 26.5" neck
    - tuning going from E standard to Drop F.

You can find the table here.
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/18rsvvZFdBDYamFm6eZd766dAYgouDTCe/view?usp=sharing

As i don't own a 8 string guitar with a 27" or 28" neck, i can't really add it but i could research about it.

I don't pretend to have the best answers, but i wish to give you the tools you need to find what suits you the best and maybe create your own set

Feel free to comment and give recommandations.

(actually i've post this on the Beginner/FAQ forum, but since i'm not sure if it's the right place and also since i made that with 7 string guitar in mind , i'm reposting it here).

Hey I have a few questions for some advice on a string gauge.

I plan on getting a hardtail guitar that I plan to have in Eb standard and sometimes drop the 6th string down to C# or drop all the strings to D standard. The scale length is 25.5" and I was wonder what would be a good string gauge? I was thinking 10-52s? Is there a better gauge or is it personal preference?

With a 10-52 set you can perfectly tune to Eb standard as this set is used for that purpose and for Drop D.
You can also use it to drop the tuning to C# or D standard even if get a tiny loose feeling on the highest strings.
But it's actually so negligible that you are perfectly fine with it.

I would personally choose this set if Eb Standard was my main tuning, so you're good to go.

Thanks for the response I really appreciate you taking the time to help with my situation.

What string brand would you recommend and which from them and why?

I know there are a ton of different string brands, construction methods, and materials used on them so what really is the difference with all of those variables? I mainly play metal and hard rock if that is of use to you

Well, as you can tell by the table i made, i'm a d'Addario user :french:
So i will naturaly recommend that brand to you.

So far i've tried fender, stagg , DR, Ernie Ball, Dean Markey (also the Blue Steel serie), and few others and i always prefer d'Addario.
My favorites so far are the NYXL for the very bright tone and the longetivity.

But in all honestly, if you had to choose, just go with Ernie Ball (slinky nickel wound) or d'Addario (XL nickel wound), in my opinion they are the best so far.
