Hi guys, last Wednesday I saw Soen live for the first time and was blown away by their performance and especially their professionality.
If you don't know Soen: It's the "new" band of Ex-Opeth Drummer Martin Lopez. They have released 4 albums, the last one "Lotus" this very year. Their style is a mixture of Tool and Katatonia, if you ask me.

    anyways... what's your opinion?

Yes, yes, yes. Love this band. I have not seen them live... yet. But I need to go see them now before they are playing in arenas. They keep on improving with every album.

Soen is awesome. I found out about them because of Haken and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands.

Super talented band, love their second and third albums but I listened to their new one a few weeks ago on the Spotify and wasn't feeling it. I need to give it another chance I guess but I didn't find it as interesting as Tellurian or Lykaia. I do really love how much bass you can hear in their mixes.

The new album seems to be more mainstreamish... in a good way if you ask me. Many people don't appreciate their new album, but I really like the singles so far... and the new songs kick ass live!

My wife is into them and we went to see them live last week, really stellar performance. The crowd was great too and the band really looked like they were loving it.

Lykaia is a great album where they really found their voice IMO. Their first two are good too but a little too Tool influenced at times. Not really digging the new one as much.

SOEN is a great band and very likable people, professional but laid back. We played a couple of minitours with them here in Finland and can second the notion that they're awesome live. All about the music. Although I have to be honest and say that while their 2 newest albums sound great I feel there is beginning to be too much repetition in mood and melody. Some people view this as finding their sound but I would prefer a bit more variety.

That's probably a good idea as they seem to be growing at a high pace! Also their sound is sort of radio-friendly so who knows where they'll end up.

It’s so nice to see Martin Lopez is doing good. I wonder why he never wanted to return to Opeth, I recall he was having panic attacks on tour and possibly had health problems. While I’m happy he’s back in a successful band I wonder what Opeth’s last few albums would be like if he hadn’t left. His style is immediately recognizable to me.
